    Canva Essentials for Everyday Visual Communication
    This hands-on workshop equips participants with the fundamental skills to create clear and visually engaging materials using Canva. Participants will learn how to design posters, cards, invitations, brochures, programmes, and other everyday communication materials by applying core design principles and using Canva’s tools effectively.

    The course also introduces participants to visualizing data and information through charts, icons, and visuals where appropriate, ensuring information is communicated clearly and meaningfully.
    Emphasis is placed on practical application, allowing learners to develop confidence in producing polished designs suitable for educational, administrative, and project-based contexts.

    Pre-requisites

    Participants should bring a laptop with internet access, along with a mouse for ease of design work. It is also recommended for participants to create a free Canva account prior to the workshop. No prior design experience is necessary, but basic computer literacy is required.
    Objective
    By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
    1. Identify appropriate Canva design formats and layouts for creating posters, cards, invitations, brochures, and simple programmes across educational contexts.
    2. Apply fundamental design principles such as hierarchy, alignment, balance, and readability when creating everyday visual materials in Canva.
    3. Configure Canva canvases, grids, and templates to suit different print and digital design outputs.
    4. Visualize data and information using charts, icons, and visuals to communicate key messages clearly and effectively.
    5. Customize Canva templates to ensure visual consistency with school, departmental, or project branding guidelines.


    Produce finalized Canva designs that are optimized for digital distribution or print use through appropriate export settings.

    Module 1: Introduction to Canva Design for Everyday Materials
    • Overview of common Canva outputs (posters, cards, invitations, brochures, programmes)
    • Understanding design intent based on audience and purpose
    • Examples of effective vs. ineffective everyday Canva designs
    • Core design considerations for non-data-based layouts

    Module 2: Setting Up Canva for Different Design Formats
    • Canvas sizing for print and digital materials (posters, brochures, cards, programmes)
    • Using grids, guides, and frames to structure layouts
    • Selecting and adapting templates for different design purposes

    Module 3: Visualizing Data & Information
    • Creating charts, graphs, and data visuals in Canva
    • Using icons, shapes, and illustrations for storytelling
    • Balancing text and visuals to avoid clutter

    Module 4: Branding & Visual Consistency Across Canva Designs
    • Applying the Brand Kit (colors, fonts, logos) consistently
    • Maintaining visual coherence across different design formats
    • Adapting templates while preserving brand identity

    Module 5: Enhancing & Exporting Canva Designs
    • Final layout checks for readability and alignment
    • Basic accessibility and clarity considerations
    • Export settings for print materials and digital sharing
