Public speaking is scary enough. The anxiety is intensified even more when we are speaking in high-stakes, high-pressure situations, or when we are in a hostile environment.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, the higher someone climbs in an organization, the bigger the responsibilities and the higher the stakes, and the less favourable the conditions they are called upon to speak. In such high-pressure situation, the spotlight is firmly on your ability to maintain your composure, your clarity and your confidence under pressure. Ability to do so will diffuse tension and even rally your employees, your bosses, your adversaries on your side. The failure to do so, however, can have dire consequences for your company, and more importantly your career. Do it well, and you possess a rare and highly sought-after skill that people often ascend to leadership positions precisely because of it.

In this workshop, Coen Tan aims to bring a new light to your presentation style. He will uncover ways to approach key stakeholders and through his workshop you will be equipped with tools to communicate in high stakes, high pressure situations.

Impromptu Speaking Strategies to Formulate Speeches Off the Cuff

• Learn about your own fright-fight-flight patterns and natural defences so that you can overcome the “blank mind syndrome”
• Adopt powerful tried and tested structures and thought processes that will help you still be able to present yourself concisely and cogently
• How to think out-of-the-box and come up with witty lines

Critical Thinking

• Participants will be taught how to form well supported arguments, coherent messages
• How to analyse issues from multiple points of views so as to form intelligent opinions that are well thought out
• How to interpret complex situations and come up with opinion and suggestions

Master the Art of Verbal Jiu-jitsu

• Learn how to decoding hostile communications
• Understanding pre-suppositions that are implied in conversations, so that you do not fall into the trap of addressing the “bait” rather than the issue at hand
• Being able to make clear distinctions between concepts and ideas, so that you can remain on track and on point with your communications

Impactful Communication Delivery

• Participants will be coached to improve upon their basic communication skills (voice quality, pitch, vocal variety, body language, eye contact and energy) so that they become even more impactful speakers
• Eliminate bad habits that are credibility killers

Assumed Prior Knowledge / Pre-Requisite
This is not a basic communications skills course.

Therefore, participants should possess assumed knowledge such as:
- Basic communication skills, e.g. body language, tonality, facial expression
- Prior knowledge of content in their own work areas

- Open-mindedness and receptiveness to new ideas
- Fair fluency in the Spoken English Language (this is not an English-Proficiency Course)
