    No deep coding, no black-box statistics—just the essentials you can start using next week.

    Pre-requisite:

    This is an Intermediate Power BI course
    • Participant has completed “Data Visualization with Power BI - Foundation Course”
    • Participants are required to
      • Bring an Internet enabled laptop with installed Office 365 (Excel) for hands-on exercises, and
      • Download & install Free Power BI Desktop software from Microsoft at https://powerbi.microsoft.com
      • Require WEB BASED access to Microsoft 365 apps
      • Basic Experience in creating a simple Power BI Report

    By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
    1. Define the right KPIs for one priority business problem.
    2. Import and tidy data with Power Query instead of copy-paste.
    3. Spot key patterns quickly—trends, outliers, missed targets.
    4. Create an interactive dashboard in Power BI

    Problem Definition, Data Collection & Exploration

    Objective: Learn how to identify business problems, gather data, and perform exploratory analysis in Power BI.

    Session 1: Identify the Problem / Set the Goal
    • Understanding business KPIs & stakeholder alignment
    • Defining clear objectives (e.g., sales performance, customer churn)
    • Hands-on: Drafting a problem statement for a case study


    Data Analysis, Modeling & Visualization

    Objective: Apply statistical analysis, build models, and visualize insights in Power BI.

    Session 2: Introduction to Power BI for Advanced Analytics
    • Identifying relevant data sources (Excel, CSV, databases)
    • Data cleaning techniques (handling missing values, duplicates, outliers)
    • Importing & transforming data (Power Query)
    • Data modeling (relationships, star schema)
    • Exercise: Connecting Excel data to Power BI

    Session 3: Data Visualization & Interactive Dashboards
    • Best charts for KPIs (bar, line, scatter, gauges)
    • Filters, slicers, and drill-throughs
    • Exercise: Creating a sales performance dashboard

    Jason Khoo is a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and an ACTA-certified trainer with over 20 years of training experience. A Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate, he brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience in data analytics and business intelligence. He is also the Author of 4 Amazon books.

    His expertise spans a wide range of areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Generative AI, Machine Learning, Digitalization, Predictive Analytics, Interactive Dashboard Design, Data Storytelling, and Data Visualization.

    He is also highly skilled in developing automated, real-time reports and conducting data and visual analytics using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and Tableau.

    Throughout his career, Jason has held key roles at organizations such as Tibs (now SMRT), MobileOne Ltd, 3M, and Virgin Mobile.
